Climate Change and mental health
We have links between climate change and health, wealth, security and many other things, now we have a new link. Climate change and our mental health. Is this guy for real? Can climate change effect our mental health?
An Australian Philospher (see full article on www.climatered.com) Glenn Allbrecht reckons that Climate Change negatively effects our mental health via a phenomina he has named "solastalgia" being broadly defined as a sadness induced by a change of surroundings, similar to that of displaced indiginous people.
Interesting concept, do we get sad when our favourite flowers don't bloom from drough or our fvourite tree dies? He seems to think so. I couldn't work out if his article was serious or tongue in cheek, I'd be interested to know what you all think.
Maybe we need some input from Katyzzz and her brain studies.........here is a link to the article, fascinating friday reading CLICK HERE

...you know as a sensitive, like you, I've felt this from the start and my mind is certainly affected (probably long before climate change) *laughs* but, /seriously/ why not?
Again, it is one of those great wake up alarm bells to me, where people come out of the Industrial Revolution Consumer Coma, to realise that no matter how much material affluence we collect and live in, we cannot shake the fact that we are carbon-based life forms, which are inexorably connected to this planet.
Sad as it is, them's the brakes!
The planet is sick at the moment ... and so are we. *laughs* but looking on the bright side, perhaps our need for change can be likened to an alcoholic, where the first stage of cure is in the acoholic acknowledging that he/she is one ... and this article rocks!
You could add to this, the very real fact that most of us have also realised by 40, that real problems require more than retail therapy... and that the reward of consumerism isn't lasting happiness, after all, despite all the sex used to make us believe so.
Thank you for posting this one, my friend.
Lilla...

I get sad every year when it starts to get cold and I have to get out of my summer gear...
Or were you talking about something a little more serious?
