what are noctilucent clouds?
and are they part of climate change?
Well while it is hard to prove the latter there is no doubt that noctilucent or night shining clouds are beautiful and becoming more and more common in places they have never been before. Climate Change or no, they are a welcome addition.
Here are some details from an article I was reading, and yes ill confess I did this post merely for the pretty pictures.

Strange Clouds at the Edge of Space

When in space, keep an eye on the window. You never know what you might see.
Last month, astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) witnessed a beautiful display of noctilucent or "night-shining" clouds. The station was located about 340 km over western Mongolia on July 22nd when the crew snapped this picture.................
......................"It's a puzzle," says Thomas. "Noctilucent clouds have not only persisted, but also spread." In the beginning, the clouds were confined to latitudes above 50o; you had to go to places like Scandinavia, Siberia and Scotland to see them. In recent years, however, they have been sighted from mid-latitudes such as Washington, Oregon, Turkey and Iran:
"This year's apparition over Iran (pictured above) was splendid," says Thomas. The Persian clouds appeared on July 19th, just a few days before the ISS display, and were photographed from latitude 38o N. "That's pretty far south," he says.
The genesis and spread of these clouds is an ongoing mystery. Could they be signs of climate change? "The first sightings do coincide with the Industrial Revolution," notes Thomas. "But the connection is controversial."
NASA is investigating. The AIM satellite, launched in April 2007, is now in polar orbit where it can monitor the size, shape and icy make-up of NLCs. The mission is still in its early stages, but already some things have been learned. Thomas, an AIM co-Investigator, offers these highlights:

Of course, there are other shining lights in the sky, those being the auroras, at the Poles. SO, it would seem logical to presume that these strange glowing clouds are highly charged, ionic, hence emitting the glow. That hye contain tiny ice crystals, in an arid part of the top art of our atmosphere, is very strange, as is their appearance after Krakatoa.
However, what this may indicate is happening, may be more proof that the slowly ongoing Pole reversal, where the positive North Pole becomes negative, and the South Pole positive, is starting to advance more quickly. Recently an article published, in Nature I think, showed how giant holes in the electro-magneic fields have been appearing, and diasppaering around the planet, one giant one over Oz for ages, then it filled up again, now one giant oval one over the Atlantic sea.
If this, as I suggest, is another sign of the electro-magnetic field changing, then this newsis a rather bit more unsettling, as the public scientific stance on the matter is, Pole reversal is slow and no one will even notice it.
Hapgood and Einstein disagree!
Hapgood's Theory, (published in the 150s) supported by Einstein, who worked on it with him, sugggests there is ample evidence around the globe to show Pole reversal may start gradually and slowy, but it eventualy gets to a point where, it snaps, and spins the crust violently around till the magnetic fields slowly re-adjust again, slowing the crust, which then stops in the new, pole reversed, position and the Poles are then re-established.
The good news is, we won't notice it, much, when it happens, because it will be so sudden and fast...
Life advice; enjoy the now, live in the moment, for tomorrow... you never know!
cheers

PS. There is a lot more evidence of the extent of our electro-magnetic field changes, the Earthcore is slowing nd there is a new vertical (?) "wave" being emitted from the core. The Sun is also undergoing changes.

They are clouds that achieve a height range of 60 to 80 kilometers above the earth. These clouds are mostly composed of ice crystals.
They are not caused by some form of ionic glow as some would suggest.
They are a world wide phenomenon and can be seen in Australia the best time to view these high flyers is during the summer months when the days are longer.
The light rays bounce of the clouds long after the sun has set. Because these clouds are so high there is enough light available to cause illumination.

Yeah whatever gramps! (refering to the boring old curmudgeon's poorly disguised slight at my fabulously witty self!
He must still be shitty over the fact that some NASA astronauts are now publicly stating UFOs are a reality... tee hee!!
Now Louie,
besides all that nonsense, do read up on Hapgood. His theory is on the net, and his correspondance with Einstein on the matter, who, DARE I SAY IT... is a rather more eminent and brilliant scientist than some I could refer to, in this comparatively tiny, globally insignificant Orble puddle!
By the way, I had no idea how, or why, these clouds formed, I just posed an idea really, that there may be some connection, but according to our resident 'genius', that must not be true.. yeah who cares?!!?
However, Pole reversal is a much harder and more worrisome question, as are all the other changes that have been noted with the Earth and the Sun. I will do some more reading up on it myself, when I get the time.

You dont seem to have an understanding of science yet you continue with the some old stuff... oh let see Hapgood and Einstein again. That seems to be your answer to everything. You offer your opinions yet offer no empirical data to support it except lets see Hapgood and Einstein.
Its fine to have opinions and be able to express them, but dont keep quoting dribble to support them.
You dont even have a clue about electricity and magnetism or even the remotest understanding of pole reversal. I suggest you write some science fiction.
If and when you get a few PhDs then you might get some credibility.
My blog may be trivial and may not compare with your ramblings you carry on with, but at least my blogs are factual. Grow up moron dont live in the past!!
I may be old pal but unlike you I have brain. At least my comments are in my field of expertise and not some pseudo science hearsay . I suggest write about something you might know a bit about and leave the scientific commentary to scientists.
This is the last time I will commenting on anything you have to say. Sarcasm and your lack of wit is all you have offer. Your comments dont bully me if fact you have my pity.

you will have to excuse this borish exchange invading your normally pristine and polite place!
We have history!
However, as CarlCan has tried to make out here, that he is the poor victim, I must point out that, in the past, in response to my suggestions and inquiries, (regarding UFOs and Hapgood's Theory in particular), I have received an abusive tirade of vulgar insults from this man.
There are examples of what he is capable of here, on your page! Any challenge to his blinkered, orthodox view is responded with sarcastic vicious personal attacks.
For someone who keeps trumpeting what a learned man he is, frankly, his attacks are unexpectantly low brow.
All he has done is reveal the sort of personality he really has; distasteful, arrogant and pestilential!
cheers and do look up Hapgood, it makes for very interesting, albeit disturbing, reading!
