green gifts for mum
Considering I am on the anti-consumerism band-wagon today, I decided to reserch some Green gift ideas for one of the most blatant consumer days of the year - Mothers Day - billions get spent on socks and cookbooks that are never worn or opened, so here are a few ideas to make mum happy and put those $$$$ to work for the environment at the same time.
The top site goes to none other than Greenpeace, now, not all these gifts will be up your Mum's alley, but hey, what woman would turn down a decent pair of handcuffs (settle down, they are designed for protests!!!!!) Other gifts include all sorts of donation plans, I think I am going to buy my mum the piece of paradise, she sure deserves it, and at $30 its a steal.

The next site I like is Neco, the eco superstore, there is an excellent range here whose only fault is that the items are a bit everydayish, but there are some great gifts, especially for the new mum. My mum isn't so new but the subscription to the organic gardener could work. also remember just because a gift is practical doesnt make it bad, the aim of the game is to consume less, so buying something green that your mum will actually use will have a double whammy effect.

The prize for beautiful stuff goes to the green gift guide, which is pretty much a portal to other sites, i didn't check out the prices but it all looked expensive, awesome for those with the budget to suit.

Another place to go to check out the upper echelon of green gifts is the tree hugger web site, green gift guide for mum, again this provides links to other gift locations, but there is a good range and its an interesting website to boot. They even have a link to green jeans which I had to pry myself away from.

Last but not least an article relating to eco friendly shopping on Planet Friendly (it was about Christmas but hey, same same) has links to gift sites too and is interesting as a bonus.

Anyhow, happy shopping, hopefully there are some tips here to be good to the planet as well as your mum.
cheers
Louie
P.S. i read an article on Greenwashing again today, be careful with the products you buy, there are still people pretending to be green despite the ACCC saying they will crack down on this behavior, i imagine if it s bad in the shops it will be worse on the web. I have tried to give credible links here.

The gift need not be expensive, just appropriate.
And for those lacking in imagination, flowers are a beautiful gift.

I got mum a new cup dispenser, here's a photo:
It should help her while away the time waiting to deal with this monster

Truthfully, I prefer things that are eco friendly and grieve over the disgraceful way mankind is treating this living planet.
