YOUR SHOUT. $600 a head, would you pay it?
Lets say, for arguments sake, that 450 quid is equal to about $600 aussie dollars (I know its prob not quite right but bear with me) The average salary over in the UK is about thirty grand, say fifty grand in our aussie dollars........
So the question is, would you pay that much in the name of Climate change?? That is what the average European family is going to have to fork out to make the new EU policy work.
Well some Europeans aren't going to take it lying down, they don't mind paying per se, the problem is going to be if the story of the negative aspect of this cost gains momentum, which is: Why should we pay, if no-one else in the world is, and why should we pay so the "BRIC's" (Brazil, Russia, India and China) can increase their capacity to produce cheap goods that compete with ours and therefore take our jobs?
and: Why should we pay for them to get richer as well as the solar entrpreneurs etc.??
Fair enough. I am preaching to the converted arguing about all the benefits of the Europeans being pioneers. My concern is, how long are they going to be willing to go it alone? Especially when the costs are pretty big compared to the average pay packet. It won't be hard for the negative campaigners to gain momentum. Up until now the Europeans have been proud to be the pioneers, but a slow down in the economy will do strange things to people. It is easy to be generous when things are good.
I guess my point is, we need a Global agreement before the scare mongers gain traction.
So here's hoping for a global agreement before the negative can gain momentum. all the global leaders going to Hawaii need to do more than hang on the beach!!!!!!!
cheers

Lets face it the infrastructure that we have in play now, just doesn;t cut the mustard for the changes and population to come. The job is huge to divert it all to something new.
I would pay it for my kids and their kids...because without it, things will become pretty grim for them.
